In an effort to streamline its activities, the National Bank of Ukraine has transferred the Banking University (Kyiv) (including Lviv Banking Institute, Kharkiv Banking Institute and Cherkasy Banking Institute) and the State Higher Educational Institution Ukrainian Banking Academy of the NBU to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
On August 28, 2015, the deeds of conveyance were signed by the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, the Banking University (Kyiv) and the Ukrainian Banking Academy.
The higher educational institutions under the control of the National Bank have been transferred to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in accordance with Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 666-р, dated June 24, 2015, and NBU Board Resolution No. 418, and this move is in line with the coalition agreement and the requirements set out in the Comprehensive Program for Financial Sector Reforms and the NBU transformation plan, under which each public institution should focus on its main tasks: the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine – advance education and science, whereas the National Bank – ensure price and financial stability in the country,” said Deputy Governor of the National Bank Vladyslav Rashkovan.
Today 3,787 students are studying at these higher educational institutions, including 639 students funded from public coffers. “The National Bank of Ukraine will keep on sponsoring students whose tuition fees are currently covered by the NBU, and in the future it plans to collaborate with these and other higher educational institutions in the area of training new staff for the banking system of Ukraine and the National Bank,” underlined Vladyslav Rashkovan.
